Miz S here, reporting in from the Outer Banks. The 22nd annual 3-generation Silver-Man family beach vacation is almost over. So far, there has been no police involvement.
It occured to me as I wrote that sentence that my life is awfully goddamned predictable. Some of you have been reading this blog since 2005, which makes this the SEVENTH family beach vacation entry. I generally like to make a few jokes about family fights (oh, there have been some doozies in the past), but I can only make those jokes if we are not actually having any conflicts. As of this writing, the ice is verrrrry thin.
And you know what comes after the beach vacation, right? Angst about the approaching school year, followed by grumbling about the pre-service week, then an entry or two about how fucking overwhelmed I feel, etc. Dudes, I need to change things up. Maybe go to Clown College or something.

Rosie and Sasha watching the sunset in Duck, North Carolina a couple of days ago.
My friend Karen (karenth in the comments) sent me a message last night wondering how Rosie is doing. As you probably remember, Rosie was diagnosed with stage 5 lymphoma a couple of months ago.
Rosie being snuggled by favorite niece Maddy at the beach house.
Rosie is being treated with daily doses of prednisone which relieves some of the swelling of the lymph nodes and just generally makes her feel peppy. Average survival time for a canine lymphoma patient on prednisone is 60 days.
Rosie is having the best 60 days ever.
Okay, I'm not sure she enjoyed the taste of sand and salty water that much, but she liked all the attention she was getting. The photo is courtesy of favorite niece Maddy.
She was slated to be left at home with a dog-sitter, but we decided to take her with us to this dog-friendly beach house. Her cousins, Thor and Edgar Allen Poo are here as well.
Which one is the cutest?
Thor thinks Rosie is sex-ay and keeps trying to sniff her butt and play with her. She has haughtily rebuffed his attention, but I suspect she secretly enjoys it. You know how us wimmins are.
How awesome is this picture, taken by my brother-in-law? SUPER AWESOME!
During the day Rosie hangs out in the living room unless the whole group is at the beach, in which case she spends a couple of hours in a crate where she makes mournful noises for a short time, then goes to sleep. If we go for ice cream in the evening, Rosie goes with us. When we play Trivial Pursuit, she is curled up at our feet. Her tail thumps whenever she hears her name. And she slumbers comfortably in our bed with us at night. Her appetite is still good, although her energy is low. All things considered, she is doing beautifully.
All beautiful, fun pics.
And I'm so glad Rosie was able to take the trip to the beach with you. I'm sure she'd rather be with you than anywhere else in the world.

Ooh, the beach. It looks beautiful and how wonderful that going there is a family tradition.
All the photos are great, but that last one of Rosie almost made me cry. What expressive eyes she has!

Rosie and Thor make a cute couple. :) I love how happy she looks.
That first photo of the wave reminds me of Hungry Hungry Hippo - it looks like it's going to eat me!

Rosie looks like she is enjoying all the attention. Glad she was able to go on vacation with you. Have a good school. Mine has started off on the wrong foot. I want a do-over!

Rosie is clearly the cutest.

She is beautiful and I want to kiss her nose.
(Just for clarification purposes ... I am talking about Rosie.)
I am so glad you took her along.

Rosie, what a girl. It's gonna be tough when she goes. It took us years to replace our last dog and even though I'm a Dog Lover, those were easy years, in retrospect...Next time - a NON SHEDDER. Ack did I just commit to a next dog? Unbelievable.
We find out class lists today, and for the 1st time ever, both of our sons are gnawing at the bit to go up to school to find out. We'll go up tonight after dinner and avoid and predictable melee.
Hey, wasn't that masthead created 2 years ago around this time of year when you were suffering the jitters and we did a huge coffee comment thread? I will offer the same assvice: More. Caffeine.

I'm so glad that Rosie is enjoying her time. I'm feeling the same way after a (sort of) lake vacation and thin ice with my least favorite BIL. School is starting up in two weeks. I've done nothing. WAHHH!

I love that Rosie is getting kind of a Make- A Wish trip. She is just so cute. I am hoping for a super throw down at the end of vacation. Remember the kerfuffle of 2011 ? I hope that will be what you all really remember.. the dog and the just beneath the surface anger and bitterness towards family. Better than salt water taffy.

If a guy named Thor tried to sniff my butt, I'd deck him.

I bet Rosie loved her vacation...and, you're home now, yes?

YAY! I'm so glad you took Rosie with you. SO much better than staying at home with the dogsitter.

So good to see Rosie with her pals and her fan club at the beach! You and the fam took some x-tra-fine pics of the Princess Rosie. The three dogs together! They were awaiting a coronation, no?
Just returned from the annual Tri-Generational Cape Cod Survival Tests ourselves. Thinking future events need to limit number of either families or generations. It was great, but we've reached a point where less is more.
Thanks for the update on Rosie!
