Placer Creek, Idaho
Thank you all very much for your expressions of sympathy. Some of you are hard-core animal lovers, while others can take 'em or leave 'em, but all of your comments spoke of your warmth and kindness, and I thank you. And those of you who read but don't comment (which is fine! I'm not one of those needy bloggers who tries to guilt her readers into commenting!), I thank you, too.
I'm fine, really. Although, the other day I surreptitiously wept on a hiking trail out here in Idaho after we patted a dog who was passing by with its owner. We're pretty much fawning over every dog we see, which makes us seem SUPAH crazy, but whatevs. The plan is to wait awhile, like a year, after Rosie dies before we get another dog. But honestly, I don't know how long we will be able to wait.
I have lots more to tell you and show you, but it will have to wait until later. It's been raining all morning here in Coeur d'Alene, but now that I am finally set up in a coffee shop with free wi-fi, it looks like the rain has stopped. Which means it's time to rent a kayak and paddle over to Cougar Bay Preserve. Kayaking trumps blogging!
It's raining in Idaho too? I thought it was hotter there than here. It's been wet on and off but it's trying to get nicer. I see blue sky!

i waited 2 months after my last dog died and i don't know how i did it.. i need a dog. of course that was 13 yrs ago, i now have 4 dogs including the one i got after that 'last' dog had died. so now i have a 13yr, 10yr, 5yr and an 8 month old dog.. that might be a bit too much..

If, like kris, you need a dog in your life, I see no reason to wait. Finding another dog to love soon doesn't take away from your love of April and Rosie. Do what makes you happy. Plus, you'll be providing a loving home to a deserving dog (or 2).

Beautiful picture.
I guess the crazy fawning over the dogs is some kind of coping mechanism or stage of grief. Tears are good, but great, heaving sobs out there on the trails might attract attention--and bears.
Can't wait to hear all about your vacation.

when chelsea died 13 yrs ago i was home alone..my husband was on a fishing trip with his fahter. chelsea was the last dog i had with my parents.. when i moved she came with me. they were both dead by the time chelsea died. i was also on 'light' fertility treatments.. i howled like a freaked wild animal when i got home from the vets. really.. it was a good thing no one was home.. a bit of weeping on a hiking trail.. no biggie..

I would weep on the hiking trail because I was hiking. Are you sure it was not that? I know you will find another dog when the time is right and it will probably not be a year. Or a week. I know you too well. The water looks nice with the moss on the rocks etc. I am proud that I identified the moss. Scientific name greenis on rockis. I just noticed that this word is very close to penis. Nature. One big circle.

Cougar Bay?
My mind goes in two directions on that one.
... just be alert.
Glad you are in such a beautiful part of Scotland.

I love the picture, I feel relief from our heat just looking at it. Good luck in waiting a year to get a new dog. ;) I think a dog will find you sooner then that.
Can't wait for more pictures.
